My Last Day in Room 17 : (

This morning I woke up early to get ready for another busy day of school. As I was brushing my teeth I realised that I had finished teaching a Pt. England School last week! Miss Ouano is back to being Kimberley Ouano for a while!

Room 17, Miss Garden and I had a shared lunch on Friday for my last day in room 17. I had been cooking all afternoon and all night on thursday to prepare for the shared lunch. Before we ate Makerita said a beautiful karakia to bless our wonderful food. We had pizza, sausage rolls, fish fingers, popcorn and cupcakes. Looking at the photos it looks like everyone enjoyed it!

I will miss teaching Room 17, I have had a lot of laughs and fun! However, I will still be around Pt. England, so it is not the last you have seen of me!

Oktapodi Movie Reviews and Creative Writing

Room 17 have been writing movie reviews and creative writing for the short film Oktapodi. The movie was produced by a French univeristy student.
Here is an example of Room 17's amazing reviews:

Oktapodi Movie Review
The movie we watched in order for us to do our writing, was called Oktapodi. The movie was set in a small Greek village, where two octopus were in love. As you would know it would be a female and a male. The main action in the film, is I would think, fighting for their soul mates.

I think that the moral of the story was to never interfere with a strong relationship. I would recommend this movie to people who are madly in love. It can help them to pick up their feet, and help each other if they are in need of help.

Students were also given the task to write the sequel to Oktapodi. Here is an example of their very creative work:

Oktapodi Part 2
Oktapodi is a short animation that you can watch on youtube. This is the second and third scene for oktapodi.

Pinky, (that’s what I named the pink octopus) shoots from the the slingshot over the seagull. She notices that she has got too much strength while she was flying. So she turned around and splattered ink into the seagulls face and lands into a pond. The seagull drops Orangey, (the orange octopus) and he lands onto the dangerous road. Pinky cries but...

She doesn't give up. Trying to reach out when...The chef grabbed Pinky and takes off. Stuck out in the open, Orangey climbs onto the nearest car and tries to catch up with the chef. The chef stops at his restaurant and goes into the kitchen. Orangey jumps off his ride and goes into the kitchen. Strapped up, Pinky sees Orangey and tries to get out, but she can’t. Orangey gets a knife and cuts the straps. They jump out the window and into the reef and live Happily Ever After.

I Hope you have enjoyed reading room 17's amazing writing! If you would like to watch this short film click here!

Panmure's King of the Mountain

Can you spot Miss Ouano in the photo?

Last Sunday I got the chance to be a part of the annual King of The Mountain marathon. I volunteered to help with the event that day. The job that I had been assigned to was very important! I had the role of collecting the runner's time chips once they reached the finish line. The first race started at 8 am, it was a 21 kilometer marathon! Since no one had finished the race till about 10 am, I did not have to do much work.

As soon as the first runner reached the finish line, then the chaos began! I had to make sure I collected all of the chips that were tied to the runner's shoes. It was hard to keep up especially if there were 10 runners finishing at the same time! However I managed to keep up. It was good because I had 3 other people helping me.

The last race finished just after lunch time, I treated myself to a sausage sizzle after my busy morning.
Overall it was cool to be a part of such a cool event. Maybe next year you might see me as one of the runners :D

Katy Perry Concert @ Vector Arena

Last Saturday night I was lucky enough to see Katy Perry live in concert! My best friend and I had bought tickets to this concert last year in November. We had been waiting a long time. I bought the tickets one second after they were being sold! I did not want to miss out.

When we entered the arena it smelt of candy floss, it was amazing. The theme of Katy Perry's concert was candy land. Katy Perry wore many beautiful costumes that were  colourful, bright and sparkly. As you can see from one of the photos, the arena was packed since it was a sold out concert. My favorite song that she performed was 'Thinking of you' and 'Firework', Katy performed them live very well.
Sold out concert, as you can see from the crowd!
Overall, it was the best concert I have ever been to! It was so much fun! I enjoyed it so much that I spent $50 on a Katy Perry tour t-shirt. I was not to happy about the price of the t-shirt the next day. However, seeing Katy Perry live was definitely a memorable experience for me! : )

Environmental Studies Assignment

This week I am working hard at university for an environmental assignment due next week. The topic I am going to work on is the threat that possums have to our native birds and vegetation.

The Australian brush tailed possum was introduced into New Zealand in 1837, and since have increased in numbers to 70 million! Possums feed on our native trees such as rata, totara, titoki, kowhai and kohekohe, they eat around 21,000 tonnes of vegetation every 24 hours. Possums also threaten our endangered birds such as kiwi, fantail, muttonbird, and tūī.
The government spends approximately $30m per year to control possum populations! This week I will be at the library researching plenty information for my assignment!

Hope you enjoyed my interesting information for today, Have fun at camp!

Weekend Getaway!

In the weekend, my friends and I went to Matarangi in the Coromandel. On Saturday night at around 9 o'clock, we had decided at the last minute to join our friends who were already there.

The drive to Matarangi at that hour of the night was not so fun for me, it was very dark and scary. When we had finally arrived at midnight, we went straight to bed after the long drive.

We stayed at one our friend's bach which was only a few meters away from the beach, it was beautiful. The next morning when we woke up the sun was out to greet us! Most of Sunday we were swimming at the beach, trying to catch some waves on our body boards!

On Monday morning we packed our things for the drive back to Auckland. I was sad to leave because I enjoyed the little break from university and work. : )
